Since eboostr and readyboost only stores small cache files like icon cache, 4kb block size is the ideal block size to use. E.G a 4kb file retrieved from 4kb block is couple times faster than if it was retrieved from 32kb block. Using small block size also increase the the speed which small files are transfered. etc gets a nice speed boost while saving battery power. Things such as displaying icons, switching between windows, loading drivers. Eboostr and readyboost uses this advantage to "speed up" your computer. The HDD takes 150x longer to access a specific data. Since the access time is lower on the SD card, the computer can access data "faster". Here's my measurement for my 160gig aao hdd.ġ28kb blocksize gets 65MB/s transfer rateĪs you can see, flash memory tends to be affected less by the block size so flash access smaller file much faster than HDD can. If you primarily use your flash storage to store movies.etc, use a large block to increase the throughtput. For now, I'm using the 160GB Hitachi, but that likely won't last long, as 500GB hard drives are getting cheaper and cheaper.Ĭlick to ing small block size also increase the the speed which small files are transfered. I did consider moving my wireless over to USB based, and using the mini PCI-E slot that the Atheros wireless card was in to do a 64GB SSD.but I went with the Intel Wifi Link 5300 card instead. I see others stating 25MB/sec, this Kingston is topping out at about 1/2 that on file transfersģ)improperly setupped cache - Not the case, I can assure youĤ)you don't have anything stored or installed on your computer that windows can speed up with readyboost - Possible, although given the amount and variety of apps I use on a daily basis, I would think this would not be the cause5) You have a fast SSD in your computer - For now, this is the not the case. If you don't notice the differnce readyboost make, the you're eitherġ) don't know what readyboost does thus can't identify where speed have improved - Not the case, I can assure youĢ) have slow flash memory - Possible.
